Hey everyone. How is everyone?

I've been working on Ben's moly for the past 2 weeks. My apologies for not posting sooner. Blogger was down when I first tried it and I didn't try again until today.

My gratitude and apology to Ben for being so generous and patient in letting me keep and work on his moly all this time. Moving to a new country, getting married and then moving again to a new home isn't as easy as I thought. :)

Our first home was very cramp. After a year it just became chaotic and stifling. Then we moved to a new unit with more room. Took a couple of months before my creative space was in working order. Now things are better and I'm beginning to be able to catch up with stuff I want and need to work on.

Hello artists,

I thought I should introduce myself. Some of you may know me and others may not.

I'm Zaza, a.k.a. szaza or Samantha— but not Sam! I'll be your friendly neighbourhood Exchange Moderator. What does this mean? From time to time I will be performing a pulse check to see how your progress is going.

It appears as though this exchange is as dead as a doornail—there hasn't been any activity since February. That's a really long time. So what say you— is it over? Shall we get organised and start sending Mollies home to their owners?

I'm here to help you in any way I can. If you can't continue the exchange for whatever reason, please speak up out of respect to the other artists— there is no shame in having a life! Keeping books without communication is not cool though. So let's find out what the next steps are.

Hello All! I am so excited (and relieved to begin the process of getting Monica's moly back to her)!

Here is my add in Monica's moly. Honestly, I don't like the way it scanned - it looks nicer in person. But I sure did enjoy doing this. It's supposed to be a couple floating in "love space" united and then parting. I hope you like it, Monica!

Now, I need to know if the address in the moly is the best address, Monica. Is it still Rua Nestor..., etc as in the cover of the book?

Being in limbo

Hi everyone.

As I've mentioned last year I've retired from teaching in March and was hoping to leave for West Virginia to be with my fiance within the year. Visa application requirements were not permitting of that. So John went ahead in September to file the visa app there. I stayed to wait it out here while he sets up house there. This also meant I didn't have any regular source of income anymore.

While i lived on my retirement, I slowly put together an online store where I sell the cloth dolls I make and the doll clothes and doll merchandise. December didn't bring in much revenues as the Christmas bulk of the incoming and outgoing mail was not very good for business. I got sick on and off in December and again in the early part of the year. 2 weeks ago I felt well enough to go into production again for the online store. Now Im busy with maintaining a steady supply of products and merchandise every weekend.

Although I was so looking forward to working on Ben's book I am going to have to admit to myself that I am not able to do that sooner than possible for me. If your all permitting I'd like to rejoin the group when I get settled in WV. I believe its going to be 2 months or less.

What do I do with Ben's book? Should I send it back to Ben or to the next one in line? Or would it be better to keep it and then I work on it when I'm able. I don't want to hold up the group.

I'm sorry for the delay. I should've done this last month but I thought I could work on it and then I got sick again. I shall wait for your reply.

Thank you for your understanding. I love being part of this group and would like to stay and be part of it.

Ben, I received my moly today!

Oh my god...it's really incredible to see in person! I was so in awe of everyone's work - I really mean that.
Everyone's work is so different and so beautiful. I really feel I have something so valuable I will treasure for the

WIP: Lynne's Dream book round two

I posted a work break in my etsy shop and was finally able to sit down and work on my entree for Lynne's book.

I've been struggling with the theme. Its a challenge incorporating more than one dream in one cohesive visual composition. I've had several dreams since Lynne's moly arrived 2 months ago.

Oh and Ben's moly arrived yesterday. Yay!

I'll be busy making gifts these next few weeks. I can't finish it in time for the Dec 14 cut-off of the postal service here in the Philippines so I'll work on it right after Christmas.

Update from the Stitch Witch Studio

Hi everyone.

I retired from teaching last March and have decided to tend to my goals of setting up an etsy shop where I could sell doll clothes and to make dolls and creatures from my other etsy shop.

I didn't know it was going to be so time consuming. I had to wait for dolls to arrive, then there's the new bodies and wigs, and eye chips. I finally got the conceptual framework of the doll clothing line for the store and now that majority of the doll models are here I can start a more fluid and efficient production.

My sewing machine and overlock machines needed repairing too so I had to tend to that and then there's my laptop's internal fan conking out. I waited 3 weeks for the replacement. It overheats and conks out. Finally I bugged the tech guys to install a temporary old one while I wait for the new one to arrive. It turns out all it needed was a few drops of wd 40. :)

I've been working on the studies for the moly. I'm stuck with the dream composition. I've had several dreams and I'm trying to incorporate them into the page but haven't figured out how. I'd really rather have a more fluid composition rather than a visual collage. I'll pick up on it again this Sunday. I aim to mail them out before the end of the month.

My true heart's desire is so much more personal now that John's in my life so I'm trying to work out the visual composition of that too. I'm trying to figure out a symbolic way of narrating it all. Akh!

The weather's been better of late. The first 2 weeks of the month have been stormy, literally. Happily I'm in an elevated part of the city, safe from all the flooding that results from the storms.

Sorry for the delay, everyone. I know your all busy with your life too but are able to cope better with the deadlines. I just wanted to assure you all that I'm still here and will finish the two books within this month.

Okay, back to work.

My apologies for not posting this sooner. I picked this up from the post office 2 weeks ago. I was really busy preparing John for his departure. He's gone ahead to the US to tend to preparing the way for me to join him there. We had 3 weeks to savor our time together and prepare papers and other stuff since we bought his airline tickets.

The storm was very destructive and thousands of homes were destroyed by the floods that resulted from it. I'm grateful the rains stopped a day before John's flight. My friends and family are still recovering from it all. Schools are closed most of this week. Some schools were converted to evacuation centers for displaced families whose homes were destroyed by the floods.

On the lighter side, I have more time to work on the molies. I have Lynne's and mine to work on along with other art stuff I've put off prior to John's departure.

Thanks again to Lynne and Ben for their wonderful tiny gifts of love.

I hope this post finds you all, safe, warm and dry.

Moleskine Exchange Copy

I printed all my moleskine exchange entrees and bound it into a serpentina book resembling the japanese moleskine that we use in exchange. Here's how it looks.

Full cover & frontispiece.

I intended it as my entree to the Flame of Asia exhibit but I'm still awaiting confirmation and arrangement details about its transport to Korea where it'll be held this year. See my entree last year, here.

I thought I'd share it with you as these are all entrees in everyone else's book.

Hi partners! finally i sit down and work in Winnie's moly!
My heart desire is about having a green Mexico, we have beautiful places here and its a pity that because of the polution and human beings those places are dissapearing so slowly, that is in the left of the drawing, and the second one is to be happy with Mara by my side a lot of time, she makes me feel so happy and full of light, and the other is to bring theather to all people, everyday a little more, and principally to children, because they are our present and needs to be near art in whatever presentation. Well i hope you understood, i think when i write a lot in english i always sound like an english caveman, sorry for the redaction! :P

Hello All! This is my entry for Winne's book. My deepest desire is to live and grow old in a natural environment; that children can find a way to get back to living in nature (so many children really miss out nowadays, living in cities...). I want to have a little farm where I grow most of my own food and teach my children to do the same. This is a picture of me, powerful and wise, with my "children" (have none as of yet :), and the place I'd love to live. I'd hope that people can really start learning that it really is good to live with less stuff, more expression and love...

Oh, I forgot to add, sorry about the poor quality pictures. I couldn't get to work, so I couldn't scan. :) This is camera stuff, and you can't see the little farm to the right! Gahh!!

I just wanted to share with you my new pen....its glass and very fragile, but it means i can draw with bleach and it wont grow rusty.....I am going to have fun :-)

I think that we are all nearly caught up now, with nearly the same number of entries in each book. I have now worked in each of the books.

I made a new envelope to mail Jen's moly to Monica. I'm using the first one to mail Monica's moly to Ben after I'm done with it.

I made this one for mailing the tokens to Monica so I'm including this in the envelope too.

Sorry for the confusion. I have two molies with me: Jen's, which I've finished and Monica's, which I'm working on. So Jen's moly will be mailed to Monica and Monica's moly will be mailed to Ben. So Ben, you'd still be getting the tree envelope when I mail to you.

This is my post for Lynne's 'Book of Dreams'!

While it may seem sketchy, unclear, and maybe underdone or confusing, I assure you it is exactly the way I felt I needed to portray my dreams, which are sketchy, unclear, unfinished, and confusing most of the time! I do love dreaming, though; I get a lot to think about from them, so don't let the drawing fool you. The trauma of dreams is, for me, an important part of my life! :)

As you know, this group has had a very rocky start, tiffany has been very slow at working on the moleskines and has resigned from the group. I hope that she carries out her promise to put Monicas book in the post to me soon.

Winnie has put my book back in the post to me ( I think that is correct? ) and Monica you have Winnies moly until the end of the holidays and then you were thinking of posting it to me?

I had arranged for more people to join us in this group. They have been stranded in a others groups, again through people holding their books for far too long, and not doing any work in them. There have been promises to post the books back to their owners so that they could join us here in this group, but again these promises have come to nothing. I am very depressed about the moleskine exchange experience so far.

what do you both think would be the best thing? Do you want to continue with just the three of us? I can understand if you want to call it a day............Winnie I know that you are going to be busy this year with all the exciting developments in your life, and Monica You are busy with your studies.......

Tiffany can you pass on the moly if you are unable to add to it at the moment.....you would get it back later, we want everyone to have a go in each book and it really doesn't matter in which order :-)

Done and done. As you can see, there's no hair...I just wasn't feeling it. I am very happy with how it turned out though. I can't seem to find my fixative spray, so I am going to pick some up tomorrow, and then it will be on its way to Lynne.

Edit: Here's a brighter scan of my moly. The first photos were really dark. The actual colors are probably somewhere in between. Also, if you click on it, it's much larger.

Hi everyone.

I finally had a chance to work on the illo for my moly tonight. I'm still tweaking this but I wanted to share the WIP photo to everyone.

I do apologize for the lateness of this. Its been a hectic month for me. First the grading season for the end of the semester at school and then preparations for the arrival of my prince. We've been talking on skype for a year and in two weeks we'll finally be together. Hence, major spring cleaning and preparations.

I'll upload more later in the week.

Monica's Moly arrived!

I was able to pick up Monica's moly this morning and it is even more amazing in person! She also sent along a few really great photos she took near her home. Monica, are all of the pictures of the same building? I really love the last curvy one.

I'm so glad it arrived safely and look forward to drawing in it. I'm still not sure what I'll be adding, but hope to start working on it once I've finished my own moly.

I finally had a chance to pick up your moly from the post office today. I had classes until friday so I had to sit on my hands in anxious anticipation until Monday.

I'll have to hurry with grading the test papers so I can get to adding my page to yours. I want to focus on this and I'm busy with the last week of school to accomplish that. It'll give me time to consider which of my dreams I'll use to add to your book of dreams. Its so beautiful, Lynne. I feel so privileged to be part of this.

Thank you for the tokens, Lynne! I'm so happy to be part of this. I'm looking forward to adding my page in your book of dreams. I'm excited to get the other molys too.

Hi all! I apologize for taking so long to introduce myself, but I am here at last. I was very excited to read everyone's intros, and I am incredibly excited to be a part of this group! My name is Tiffany and I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota with my partner and our four cats. I recently completed my art degree after many years of taking time off and trying to determine my purpose in life. I'm not sure that I ever came to a conclusion, but along the way I developed an intense love for art. I try to surround myself with people who inspire me, and I can see that this group will definitely do just that.

I do have my moly and hope to get started in it very soon. I already love what Lynne has done and I am very excited to see what everyone else has in store. It's great to meet you all!

I was finally able to pick up the japanese album moly from Fully Booked. I'm contemplating on what topic to work on. I have several in mind but will decide on it soon so I can start my pages on it.

This is a number of firsts for me. Its my first moly, my first moly exchange and my first exchange. Its all very exciting! Judging from how everyone's pages are blooming in the moly_X group in flickr I have a sense that it is addictive. Its an addiction that I won't mind having. (:-})

Just a quick word about how many pages you work on in your moly. I would like you to use 3-4 pages in my book, so that I can get a nice generous piece of your art in my book, and rather than finish on an edge of a page, could you make it easy for the next artist to integrate their image . Thanks :-)

also, if you dont want collage in your booko ,or if you only want us to use black.....whatever, just tell us, its your book

Hi everyone!!!
I’m very anxious to get my moleskine, it will be my very first!!! Here in Brasil, moleskines are very rare, and very difficult to find...
I’ve bought mine in Ebay and I hope it will arrive soon!!!
Actually, I live in São Paulo, but I was born in a small city located in São Paulo state.
I have a degree in Fine Arts from Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), which is located here in SP. I frequented several ateliers, mainly of live model.
By the way, I love to make portraits, draw people and more people. It’s fascinating.
Nowadays I dedicate myself integrally to drawing and once in a while I make magazine illustrations.
I’ve already worked in museums and gave art classes...

Well, Hello again people!
A little introduction to all of you.
As you may know, I'm from Argentina, from ths smallest city here, named Tucumán. Actually I live in Buenos Aires, the capital from Argentina, I study Graphic Design and I work at my place doing design, art, etc etc..
I'm pretty into everything that is lettering, i love typography and I find there something as harmony.
I studied and finished advertising but it's not something i like the most..
Im a second teacher of typography 1 in Graphic Design carreer in University of Buenos Aires (UBA), I really like to teach, I think it's the place where I learn everyday.
I also love music, jazz mostly, all kind, more the old one, the classics, oh yes, I'm an old fashioned girl.. :)
Recently I found something I like a lot, wich is sewing, my boyfriend and I bought a machine to make a job with scenographies and I found it very interesting and a new way to practice design.. As I told you before, I get bored very quickly of stuff.. Im everytime trying new ways and new solutions for everything, I think I can smell creativity, consume creativity, get drunk with art :) I'm an artholic...
Well... as we say here "culo inquieto" wich means "restless ass" :)

Hi everyone. I am a painter first and foremost, I paint a little, exhibit a little, and used to teach. I love to experiment with almost everything I can lay my hands on, just love everything about art. I have a degree in Fine Art, I live in the countryside, I have three sons ( grown and left home ) two dogs ( small yappy ones but I love them ) and a very patient husband :-)
I am looking forward very much to this exchange, looking at the map has shown me how far our moleskines will be traveling, and its very exciting.

Hi everyone. I shall get my moleskine this weekend and have in in the mail the following week. Do I understand that I'm to mail to the person whose name is under mine in the roster of members?

I'm excited to get started on this. This is my first moly exchange. Happiness!

I started visual journaling only recently (about 3 years ago) as a continuation of my journey towards self discovery. My first and still ongoing visual journal is called, Growing Pains. I am also almost done with Sabrina Ward Harrison's visual journal workbook, The True and The Questions.

I teach art history and aesthetics and I'm a book illustration category thesis adviser 4 days a week this semester. I love drawing every chance I get, I use watercolor, ink, watercolor crayons, color pencil, ephemeras, rubberstamps (bought and personally carved) on my visual journal pages. I also make cloth dolls and cloth sculptures and wirework jewelry and sculptures. I've recently started to make shrines and am at the moment exploring assemblage as a medium.

I'm looking forward to interacting with all of you. I've checked out your stuff and I find them all so refreshing, interesting and inspiring.

I wish we could all come together for tea, coffee and cake when all this is accomplished. A sort of celebration. Wouldn't that be interesting?

Moly_x_43, founded by paintistworks: Lynne (UK), is an extension of the Moleskine Exchange. This blog will follow the adventure of a group of artists around the world, in a Japanese fold Moleskine sketchbook exchange. Our current group includes the artists listed to the right, including contributors in the US, Germany and Belgium.

Each artist will set off with a small Japanese (accordian) folded Moleskine. Creating a drawing, collage, or painting, then send on to the next artist. Each artist will draw on a couple of spreads (3-4 pages) then send it on to the next artist. When the artists book is filled, it will be returned to the owner with images created by artist around the world. Each artist has a month (give or take) to make an entry. The outcome will be a pleasant and surprising adventure, as artists are encouraged to interact and merge their art with others.

The concept:

1. The artists start with the Japanese fold Moleskine - Name, address, email address written in book.

2. Each artist gets 1 month (give or take) to make a sketchbook entry, and mail it to the next person. The order is listed to the right -- for participants in this exchange, look at the list of names under MAILING ORDER. If you ever need to update addresses, please feel free to contact your partners directly! An important part of this project is to discuss and exchange information and ideas.

3. Each artist will do 3-4 pages each round.

4. Artists are encouraged to interact with other images in the book. Please be respectful, but also don't hesitate to meld your art with earlier entries.

5. When the book is full, when one side of the unfolded book is filled, the book will be sent back to its original owner. That artist may continue by buying a new book and sending it to the next person.

6. If a person decides not to continue, she will simply keep her book when it comes back to her. She should email all of the participants to say she is not going to continue. We will decide, then, if we want to find a new person.

7. Please communicate regularly via email. Let each person know that you have received/sent the book. The goal is to have a dialogue. Any comments and questions are welcome.
